Sports in Bangkok


Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand. Here sports take an important part in the life of the youths and also middle aged citizens. Thai Boxing or Muay Thai is a kind of traditional kick boxing where knees, feet and elbows can be used.

Kite fighting is one interesting sport normally happens in the hot season. In this game the opposing teams fly male Chula and female Pakpao kites in a battle of the sexes. This can be enjoyed in most of the weekends at Sanam Luang. A woven rattan ball is used in Takraw. This is a game where a circle of men use their feet, thighs, knees, chests and shoulders to acrobatically pass the ball to each other. They try to keep it airborne and then kick it into a suspended basket. Tournaments are usually held at Sanam Luang.

In Bangkok you can have a number of fitness centres. Many of which are attached to hotels. These are only for members. The Grande Spa and Fitness Club in the Sheraton offer daily membership. This is located in Grande Sukhumvit Road.

Some of the superb golf courses of Thailand are present in Bangkok. Some of these are also open to tourists. The Royal Golf & Country Club is situated at near location from the city. You can easily reach the place by taxi. This is an 18-hole course.

The Rose Garden Golf Club is situated 32 kilometres or 20 miles southwest of Bangkok. This is another attraction of the golf lovers.

Swimming pools are present with water water slides and artificial surf. In the north side of Bangkok Siam Water Park is located. This is always open to the non-members.

Many tennis clubs are there open to the public. These include Asoke Sport Club, Asoke-Din Daeng, Sawadeeb Soi, and Central Tennis Court. All of these are located in prime places and also easily reachable.

Karting in Thailand

In Thailand, karting is available everywhere including Pattaya, Bangkok, Hua Hin, Chiang Mai, Rayong, and Nakhorm Ratchasima. Most of these tracks have different circuit layouts of different complexity and as also length. Even children can enjoy some of the karts as they are specifically made for them. But you should be careful of your children and follow the safety rules. RCA plaza Bangkok is famous for having the biggest indoor go-karting in the world. It started in April 2004. This is the first go-karting arena in Thailand while in Asia this is the third. The go-kart stadium is open daily from Monday to Thursday but the timings are different on all days. The entrance fee is 390 Baht which include the racing suits, go-karts, helmets and other racing accessories.

In the Royal town of Hua Hin, there is a professional, exciting and also safe go-karting stadium. You can enjoy the game with your grown up children. The stadium is located in the main road opposite to the Hua Hin airport. The whole 700 m track is fully surrounded by palm trees and mountains. Go-karts in Hua Hin offer 6hp Junior Karts, 13hp NKT Senior Karts and 6hp NKT Two seater karts. Championship tournaments are also organized where ROC lap timing equipments are used to time the rides. And when you are tired of driving away to glory at mind numbing speeds food and refreshments are available in the stadium where you can relax a bit. This is open everyday from morning 10.30 to evening 7. Prices are different for different segments like 350 baht Junior Kart, 450 baht for senior kart and 400 baht for two seater kart.

Pattaya also has a great facility for sports lovers. Pattaya kart speedway was the first rental kart circuit and exists for past ten years. There are three tracks to choose from. These are mainly designed to enhance thrills on different surfaces. These tracks suit all the persons with different skill sets.
